For instance, type "cattle branding" into Google and you'll see ads for business branding services. Those advertisers' click-through rates will improve when they add "cattle" as a negative keyword.

4. Delete keywords and ads that are not working. Because Google's system rewards a better click-through rate with higher ad placement and lower costs, you are paying Google more than necessary when you leave poorly performing elements running. Periodically clean out your losers.

5. Send people to a landing page that makes perfect sense. People click on search engine ads to learn more about whatever was featured in the ad. It seems logical that they'd look around from your home page for whatever interested them in the ad, but that's wrong. Searchers are impatient. So if your search engine ad mentions a software demo, do not send them to your company's home page. Send them to the exact page from which they can access the demo.

The fact that we are now living in the information era also adds to the problem. It has gotten to the point where there is just way too much information being offered to people all at once for the average individual to be able to deal with effectively.

So what can be done to help start and build your e-business in smaller more manageable chunks?

The following are some guidelines that can help you build it byte by byte:

1) Make a whole hearted commitment to complete all of your daily tasks:

Before you begin your day's work make a commitment to yourself that you will complete what is necessary and avoid what is not. Do not approach your work with a wishy washy attitude such as I will try to get it done and if not, oh well! That attitude is an surefire ingredient for failure.

2) Prioritize Your Tasks:

After you have made a commitment and are ready to start work on your business, know beforehand the things that you want to accomplish and place them in order of importance. Above all else when working on your tasks, do not move onto the next one unless you absolutely must until you have completed the current task. If not, you can be certain that things will tend to get lost and forgotten about.

3) Stay focused:

It is recommended that you write your daily tasks down and keep them in front of you where they are easily seen at all times. This will help you stay focused on the subject matter at hand and keep you from drifting to things that are not related directly to the work you are doing.

4) Excute:

Once your commitment has been made and you have written down your prioritized tasks, simply go to work and get the job done! Do not allow anything to get in your way of completing your tasks. That anything can be certain fears you may have about the possible outcome of a certain task. Do not allow self-induced fears turn into mental monsters! Reign in the monsters and just get the job done!

It is a known fact that most day to day tasks take less time to actually do then the amount of time people spend negatively thinking about them. So do not think too much about it! Just execute…execute…excute!

5) Do not allow yourself to get overwhelmed:

With the amount of tasks that seem to have a need to get done all at once, it is no wonder why many fail. There is one feeling that will defeat a good spirit and that is the feeling of being overwhelmed. If you feel yourself getting to that point, stop and take a walk or do whatever it is that will help you take your mind off of your work. Remind yourself with a good feeling that when all is done you will be that much closer to obtaining your goals but most importantly just simply relax your mind.

If you are new to the net and interested in making money ethically then this article will educate you in the various methods of making money online.

It uses a blog as an example of various types money making paths.  Blogs cost nothing and are provided free to build a community on the internet.

First of all you can sell a product directly.  Have a website and sell as you would have in a mail order catalogue, except thanks to the internet you can automate most of the process, other than shipping and handling.  You also still have to stock a product.  However this becomes limited when compared to your traditional shoppping mall because while Wal-mart, K-mart, Big-W or whatever can have thousands of products on display, attempting the same on one website becomes very difficult.  This is why most people to sell products direct online have a limited number of products for sale.  I do participate in a variation of this same theme and you probably have as well, selling on auction on ebay is a type of direct product selling, courteousy of a third party provider.

Next go to the resource box and you will see examples of all the rest of the things I am going to be talking about. (just copy and paste the address to your URL - thats the address bar)

Firstly, you will note that there are no direct products for sale.  I don't want to ship hundreds of items, I want to leverage my time, so the first thing for sale is a product available through an affliliate.  At this stage it doesn't matter who it is for, its the concept that is important here.  You don't have to sell a product directly to make money on the internet.  You can become an affliliate member which gives you the right to advertise a product and if a sale is made you get a commission - kind of like your old door to door salesperson, but this time the door is via the customers internet.  In order to succeed here you need traffic to your website, the more targeted traffic the better. (by targeted I mean something that the customer is looking for, you don't want someone who wants to buy a dog to come to your cat website, as its unlikely to result in a sale).   Eventually given enough traffic the sales will come.  Remember the higher the cost of the product the less sales are likely, most people are on a restricted budget, but the higher the cost or the product normally the large commission payout.  This is a balancing act, if one thing pays out $500 dollars you would only have to sell one a week, if another paids you a $5 commission then you would have to sell hundred to make the same money.

It is important to understand that as an affliliate you are provided with a code embedded into your links which tracks you are being responsible for bringing the company the sale.  Hence in any banner, links, code to put in, make sure its your own.

The second item for sale is a viral type of product or similiar to the old MLM's.
In this case GDI - Global domains International, which has the rights over the .ws web address ending (in this case .ws is advertised as standing for website).  What they are selling is a hosting service provider as well as a domain name and a variety of other internet services, quite cheaply really considering what your getting.  But the real money making deal here is that by signing up others you make a $1 per person per month, and you make another $1 for each person they sign up and so on to five levels deep.  Why would a company do this.  Because its cheap advertising for them and explodes their growth.  In the case of GDI they have made it very clear that they want be the dominant website address .ws, in order to accomplish this they are willing to share money with anyone who helps them grow.  By clicking this link the company knows you brought them another customer and your share in the profits.  I call it viral because like a virus it catching from one person to a few more to many more, to hundreds, well you get the idea.  $1 dollars is not alot, but $1 times 5000 is.  Once again you are not selling a product, you are as an agent, and you are not selling a tradtitional goods but in this case a service.  This is a viral type or MLM type of system.  Often MLM gets a bad rap, but I believe it is because people buy the SYSTEM, instead of buying the PRODUCT, whatever you buy make sure you are happy with the PRODUCT. 

The third one is an ebay link.  Once again this earns money through affliliate program.  It is easy to sign as an affliliate, just look on any web home page and your will normally find a link to "affiliates"  In this case the affliliate it run through a third party - commission junction, who acts as an independant company to make sure affliliates are not ripped off, paid on time, etc.  This isn't even directly selling a service - its straight out promoting another website.

The four one is EPI - Emerald passport Inc.  which is a total online product, namely financial education materials, self improvement, hours of video and audio, information store on line.  Its an example of selling INFORMATION online.

Don't think information is valuable consider this short piece of information
for anyone who has sold on ebay.
Do you list a product at $20 or $19.99.  Which will make you the most money?
 
The $19.99! how you ask, because the listing fee difference between $20 and $19.99 is 25 cents (don't tell ebay I told you this, that might lose some of your money).  Hence if you list and sell at $20 you earn 24 cents less than the person who listed and sold at $19.99.

How much is this information worth - well at least 24 cents, but to those who sell hundreds of items, much more if they are making this basic mistake and costing themselves money.

Obviously quality information that saves money, creates money or increases your knowledge is important.

Finally you see an short article on clickbank.  Like comission junction they act as an afflitate provider and users.  This link sells NOTHING yet still makes money.  HOW? because anyone who travels down your link to clickbank and joins in makes you a small commission.  Once again its a company paying you to advertise, in this case to help them advertise. 

A similar thing is google adwords where you are paid to advertise and then pay a small amount per ad click through.

Some other links are included as examples, but you get the picture.  Some links make NO money but are their to try and generate traffic, see instantBuzz.com, traffic swarm, etc.  Not everyone can be listed in the first pages of a search engine, so you can either accept that fact, be in constant competition to optimise and re-optimise your web page to stay near the top.
There are people willing to do this.  Why you may ask?  Because the free advertising generated by being in the number one spot is a virtual goldmine and drives huge quantity of traffic to your site, especially if you are listed with a big search engine like google or yahoo.  However if you aren't going to be listed high on one of these search engines (in fact sometimes its even hard to be found and cache by these engines) then you are going to need alternative ways to bring traffic to your website.  Another option to marketing is to pay for it, like with google ads word.  Another is to advertise offline in a variety of traditional media, magazines, newspaper, radio and TV.

I hope this article and the website at have helped you increase your knowledge of how business takes place on the internet.  There may be other ways I haven't yet covered, but this is a good base for you to start.

Search engines and blog services love regular updates. It's very likely that you will get targeted traffic from search engines if you post regulary. That means you should make a new post to your blog at least once per day. But be careful. Too many updates per day can harm your search engines position and hits. What's too many? 10 or more.

4.Post in forums
Post in forums, but don't spam them. Post something fresh and interesting and put a link to your blog in your signature. Don't just post in any forum. For example if you're selling cds, post in forums that are about music and cds. Don't post in car forums if you're selling furniture. By posting in forums you will get one-way links which are good for search engine position in search engines like google or msn or yahoo.

5.Submit to blog search engines
There are masses of search engines available, that list only blogs. Just google for „blog search engines" and you should find at least 20 of them. These blog search engines will help you with targeted traffic. Be sure to write a good title and a good description to your blog, so that people will easily find it and click on your link.

Follow these 5 steps and you will start seeing lots of traffic to your blog. And the so long awaited sales will start coming in. And don't forget to update your blog with fresh unused content that you write yourself.

Here's how and why to use the sample chapter technique to generate leads for your info product. 
*  To test your idea for a new information product before spending days, weeks, months creating something nobody wants to buy.  If few people request the freebie, your product is almost certainly a no-goer, similarly if the freebie is popular but results in few or no paid-for orders.
*  The sample chapter can be a selling tool not only for its own full length paid-for version, but for other products too, where for example a list or catalogue of additional products is included with the giveaway item.  For instance, the first chapter of 'The Way to a Man's Heart: Cooking with Known Aphrodisiacs' might generate interest in the paid-for version of the book and might additionally direct readers to web sites offering related info products, such as '1001 Ways to Be Romantic', 'How to Find the Man of Your Dreams', and so on.  It pays to be careful, however, when including links for other people's products, and ensure they do not detract from the real reason the sample chapter was given, namely to sell that cookery book.  As for all things in mail order, direct mail, online marketing, you must test response to all your promotions.

*  The sample chapter can include a contents listing for the full length version, where readers can check length (yes some people still believe quantity outshines quality) and you can induce sales with tempting chapter titles and snippets.  It's a good idea to give the page numbers on which certain highlighted features occur, especially where pages run into triple figures (again, never mind the quality, feel the width), and chapter headings are themselves deliciously vague.  Like this:
"Here's a sneak preview of '1001 Easy Ways to Get Rich Overnight!'
-  How to live in a luxury home without having a mortgage and never having to pay a penny rent (Chapter Twenty Four, Page 201)
-  The four letter word that gets you everything you want out of life, and more!  (Chapter Twenty Five, Page 273)
-  How to get a brand new car and drive it away without having to pay!  (Chapter Twenty Six, Page 307)
-  Four words that guarantee you free travel for the rest of your life!  (Chapter Twenty Nine, Page 406)"
*  People will retain your sample chapter far longer than they will normally keep a sales letter, especially of the printed variety or on a web site with a domain name they'll soon forget.  So although the majority of people will buy the full length product quite soon after receiving the freebie, you might still get a steady trickle of sales later when busy people find time to read your sample chapter.
Never forget the most common reason of all is to tempt readers of the free infoproduct to click on the link on the very last page where they find your order form and BUY YOUR BOOK!

Keyword density and placement are important parts of optimizing your articles for search engines. What is a Keyword?

Each webmaster as their own density that they like to achieve based on past results. As long as you don't over optimize and you are making sufficient profit from your rankings, then you can choose whatever keyword density you like.
The Right Density
No matter what exact density you choose, it is important to place keywords so that there are more at the beginning and end to produce an hour glass effect. Having the right keyword density in your article makes it more likely that you will make money off of that article because it will rise in the search engine results and be seen by more people.

Since search engines were invented, there has been a constant head to head between the search engine algorithm writers and webmasters.  Every time the algorithms changed the webmasters tried to outwit them.  The internet is full if conflicting SEO advice on how to achieve top rankings. This article hopes to clear up some of the confusion.
In the beginning it was sufficient to have an adequate amount of keywords on your website in order to rank highly in the search engines. This led to keyword spamming, a practice which still continues today amongst inexperienced webmasters.
Then along came Google and the goal posts shifted.  Google put more emphasis on webpage linking,  Their thought was simple - if one website had a link to another website, then it was as if the first website was placing a vote of confidence for the second website's content and therefore the second website must be useful and relevant to the readers of the first website.  Thus the Google Page Rank was invented.
Soon the webmasters and internet marketers got to work.  This saw the emergence of link forms and reciprocal linking sites.  Internet marketers declared that the more links that appeared on your site, the higher it would rank in Google.  Suddenly link pages from websites started to run into multiple pages as the race was on to exchange links with whoever would agree.  Some sites started to have thousands of links point to their sites and began rising in the search engine rankings.
Of course the game of cat and mouse with Google continued as the search engine giant once again changed its algorithms.
It is now widely accepted that previous linking strategies are failing because of what Google now expects from links.
RELEVANCY
Google expects links on a site to be relevant to the readers of the original site.
ONE WAY LINKS
Google gives a much higher priority to one-way links without a reciprocal link in return.
ANCHOR TEXT
It is better for the anchor text (the actual text that contains the link) to be keyword relevant to the content and also to vary as numerous instances of the same anchor text without variance can be interpreted as keyword spamming.
The importance placed on the above factors has all but eliminated the effectiveness of previous linking strategies.  Most links on link page directories were exchanged with any site who would reciprocate.  Therefore most of these sites were not relevant to the original site.
The reciprocal linking strategy also negates the one-way linking preferred by Google.  Most link directories contain the same anchor text in all links, as this anchor text was advertised on the "link to us" page.
Therefore Google now looks upon these reciprocal link directories as having no value.  They do not distribute page rank and therefore do not help the ranking of your website.
That is why I now describe article writing as the new SEO Master Tool - please see Part II of this article for the reasoning.

Adware is software that provides advertising, usually in the form of pop ups, and gathers general information, by using cookies, through the user's Internet connection. Adware is often packaged with free downloaded programs. By definition, adware, by itself, is not dangerous, but can fall into the annoying category. Adware can generate constant pop up advertising when the downloaded program is running. It can also place cookies on your computer that will provide information about you when you click on the pop ups or log on to the original program download site. If users register the downloaded program, usually games, and pay the registration fee, the adware disappears. If you download a free program, there is a reasonable probability it will contain some form of adware. So far, that's not necessarily a bad thing. Many people happily trade payment for enduring a few pop up advertisements and don't care if their general Internet surfing habits are being tracked. The problem begins when they become intrusive.
That's when adware becomes spyware.
When adware is expanded to use your computer's resources to steal information, it becomes spyware. Spyware is like the Trojan horse that is discussed on our Virus article. Computer users who are installing a program or swapping files (i.e. music downloads) may also be installing a spyware program whose purpose is to monitor your computer activity and gather your private and confidential information. This includes e-mail addresses, user passwords and certainly any credit card numbers you enter when making a purchase on-line. They can also happily install other spyware programs, hijack your web browser by changing your home page and your browser's search engine. All the time it is sending back information to the bad guys, who will use it for their own advertising purposes, sell it to other bad guys or use it to steal your identity. To do all this, spyware uses your computer's memory resources and bandwidth. This can slow your computer to a crawl, especially if you use memory intensive programs. Spyware is not
good.
Do you have adware and/or spyware on your computer? The chances are absolutely outstanding that you do. This may not be a problem, but sometimes it could be disastrous. Some of the signs that your computer may be infected are:
1. Your web browser looks a little different. New toolbars suddenly appeared. The search engine you use is different. A brand new home page suddenly appeared.
2. Pop up advertisements that aren't related to the web site you are viewing are appearing with disturbing regularity. You click on links that go to nowhere. Ads for pornographic web sites start popping up on your computer. Your "new" search engine produces web sites unrelated to your query.
3. Your Windows desk top takes longer to load than it did in the past. This is because lots of spyware programs have added themselves to the Windows start up procedure and load every time you turn on your computer.
4. Your computer is running slower than normal.
If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, you probably are infected and need to take some action.
There are hundreds of Spyware programs on the market. Most offer a free on-line inspection of your computer to see if any spyware is present. Since their scans always find something, it's a great way to market their product. However, it's probably a good idea to dig a little deeper before making a buying decision.
Some anti-virus programs include adware and spyware elements as part of the basic program. Check yours and see if you have a spyware feature and if it is activated. If it is, and you still are experiencing problems, make sure you have downloaded the latest updates.
At Jamison Software, we look at viruses and spyware as two different problems and have chosen to attack them with two different programs. When selecting a spyware program we looked at numerous reviews and tested several (they all have 30 day free trials) on different computers before making a decision. Spyware and anti-virus programs work basically the same way. They develop large data bases or encyclopedias of known adware and spyware. The computer is scanned against these data bases and the culprits are identified and deleted or placed in a quarantine folder where they can't continue to cause trouble. These data bases are constantly updated in order to keep up with the spyware developers. Good Spyware programs should do two things well. They should maintain great data bases and provide fast, proactive customer service.
Why do we like two programs? Viruses and Spyware are cousins and sometimes there is a gray line between the two. With two data bases, we can sometimes stay ahead of the curve, finding a problem in one program that is actually solved by the other. Here's an example.
We use and highly recommend Spysweeper by Webroot software. One feature of Spysweeper is that it identifies new programs that will start when Windows starts. If no new programs are being installed, this means only one thing-spyware. When that happens, an alert screen appears and there is an option to remove the offending program. Sometimes that procedure is successful and the problem is resolved. However, occasionally the program reappears all by itself in a second or two. We have a virus. That information can be passed on to AVG Anti-virus Systems, our Anti-virus software provider, and within hours an update removing the offender is downloaded and implemented. This happened several times on our test computer (we did not use a firewall to attempt to create just this scenario) and we were very pleased with the results. We also found that Trojan horse files with a .pif suffix were the main culprits.
If you are concerned about spyware, we recommend Spysweeper. We found the data base very thorough and up to date and their customer service team responsive. When we had to upload suspected spyware for their review, they provided detailed, easy to follow instructions.
